What are Symptoms of Dry Eye Disease?

  • Redness or eyes that appear irritated and bloodshot

  • Consistent burning or tingling sensations in the eyes

  • Eyes that feel itchy or as if they have something in them

  • Increased sensitivity to bright lights or sunlight

  • Excessive tearing or watery eyes

How is dry eye diagnosed and treated?

Through imaging of the meibomian (oil) glands and measuring the quality of the tear film, we are able to diagnose and determine which treatment will best help each patient’s unique conditions. At EyeCare Vision Optometry, dry eye treatments go beyond eyedrops. We implement various emerging techniques and technology to help you find relief for dry eyes or ocular skin concerns.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

What is IPL?

  • IPL is a non-invasive, therapeutic, dry eye treatment that targets the blood vessels surrounding the meibomian glands. It enables them to secrete oils naturally and resume their moisturizing function to relieve symptoms and slow the progression of dry eye.

  • During treatment, the heat from the light will help liquify and release oils that clogged the meibomian glands in the eyelids.

  • Our in-office treatment uses a specific range of wavelengths, customized to the patient’s cell absorption characteristics, wavelength of the light used, length of pulse, and amount of energy delivered.

  • Typically, patients immediately feel a difference, but a series of 4-6 treatments is ideal depending on severity.

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

What is LLLT?

  • LLLT is a non-invasive, pain-free treatment that targets dry eyes, styes, and chalazion (cysts) of the eyelids

  • LLLT works to control oil production of meibomian glands, target inflammation of the eyelids, treat acne/rosacea, improve skin tone by stimulating collagen production, and reduces redness

  • Studies have shown that LLLT significantly improved dry eye symptoms by helping maintain the tear film, which lubricates the eyes

  • We offer versatility with 4 color wavelengths that can be used independently or combined to up to 24 combinations that target various conditions:

    • Red Light Therapy (633 nm): Stimulates cellular activity and promotes collagen production. Improves skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and reduces inflammation.

    • Blue Light Therapy (417 nm): Able to penetrate the skin and reach sebaceous (oil) glands. Helps eliminate bacteria responsible for acne, reducing acne blemishes and improving skin texture.

    • Yellow Light Therapy (590 nm): Stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation. Reduces skin redness from conditions such as ocular rosacea while promoting detoxification and healing from sun damage.

    • Infrared Light Therapy (850 nm): Promotes cellular repair by deeply penetrating the skin tissues. Effective for pain management, muscle recovery, and joint health especially post-surgery

iLUX Therapy

What is iLUX?

  • iLux is a handheld device that is designed to heat and apply gentle pressure on the eyelids to open up blocked meibomian glands

  • When these glands are unblocked, oil is more easily released onto the eye as you blink throughout the day

  • This device has a specially designed eyelid smart tip that gently delivers treatment directly to the blocked glands while protecting the surface of the eye

  • Clinical studies have shown the iLux increases meibomian gland function by 300% at 4 weeks post- treatment compared to baseline.
